GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state legislative assembly sitting will convene next Monday until August 10 with over 600 oral and written questions being submitted to the August house.

Penang Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said three motions would be debated, namely the timber based industries enactment, the appointment of permanent state assembly committee members and the nomination of two senators from the state to the Dewan Rakyat.

“For this sitting, no motion has been raised by the opposition and all three of these motions will be debated at this session,” he told reporters after the opening of the 14th Penang state legislative assembly’s first sitting of the first session by Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas here yesterday.

He said the motion for the appointment of permanent state assembly committee members would also involve the appointment of an opposition leader as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Asked on the motion to limit the service of the Penang Chief Minister to two terms, Law said he had not received any application to debate on the matter at this current sitting.

“I understand the state government is still in the process of discussions with legal advisers before submitting the motion,” he added. – Bernama
