KUCHING: The Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) was ready to mobilise 7,170 officers and policemen to monitor 1,832 polling centres, 2,968 channels and 870 Election Commission huts in 31 parliamentary constituencies in the GE14.

According to state Police Commissioner, Datuk Amer Awal, the officers and policemen involved have been trained and exposed to related courses such as Light Strike Force (LFS), Public Order and Riot Unit (PORU), law classes and Election Information System (SMPR).

This was stated by him at the Sarawak Police Commissioner monthly assembly at the Sarawak IPK in Jalan Badruddin here yesterday.

Apart from that, Amer said the Sarawak police have received 69 motorcycles earlier this year to be distributed to the interior areas in the effort to strengthen the Motorcycle Patrol Unit for the GE14.

“We (the state police) also received 11 multipurpose vehicles (MPV) for the use of station heads in each district and the weapons unit of the Sarawak IPK.
