KOTA PADAWAN:  Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Ir. Lo Khere Chiang urged dog and cat owners to neuter their pets.

Lo said the problem in the increasing number of stray dogs has to be acknowledged and the public must work together with the council in solving the problem.

He said the problem is not only with the council but also with SSPCA (Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in dealing with the number of strays it received.

“SSPCA has difficulties as well in accepting every dog and cat that we are going to send to them. Because it is not only us but MBKS and DBKU also send dogs and cats to SSPCA.

“Last time we only have to pay RM30 to SSPCA for one dog but now we have to pay RM90. And not only that we are restricted to send in only 15 dogs per month.

“Last time there was no limit. So just catch these stray dogs and send them to SSPCA. But not anymore. SSPCA says we cannot give them more than 15 dogs per month and we have to pay RM90 for every dog. So this goes to show that we have this problem and we have this issue,” Lo told a press conference after MPP Full Council meeting here yesterday.

“Not only to highlight this issue to the public but also to tell the public that they have to work together with the council.

“Neuter your dogs or cats so that they cannot reproduce. If all of us take responsibility for our pets then there will not be any increase of stray animals in the streets,” he said.
