Padawan police dispose of 333 gambling exhibits

PADAWAN: Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD) disposed of 326 computer units and seven simulator machines at the IPD compound, yesterday.

According to Padawan IPD deputy chief, DSP Merbin Lisa, the items were gambling exhibits and were disposed of only after being directed by the court.

“19 raids were carried out within 2015 until 2016 around Padawan area. The confiscated items were worth RM268,000.

“During the raids, police managed to arrest 23 men and two women who were the owners of the illegal gambling dens and 25 customers for the investigation,

“A total of 19 investigation papers were opened and investigated under Section 4B (a) of the Open Gaming House Act 1953.  The offence carries a jail term up to two years, a fine of up to RM20,000 or both, upon conviction.

“The IPD Padawan will increase the data collection and information from the public to monitor the gambling activities,” said Merbin during press conference yesterday.

Also disposed of were 483 banners of illegal money lenders’ advertisements under the “Op Vulture”.

“A total of 32 reports received under the operations that were carried out starting from 9th May 2015 until 14th July 2017. The illegal banners were found hanging or stuck on the street lamp and trees along the housing area as well as at the roadsides in Batu Kawa, Kota Sentosa, 10th Mile, Siburan, Tapah and Beratok area,

“The case was investigated under Section 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and upon conviction the offence carries a jail term up to two years, a fine up to RM20, 000, or both.

“The application (to hang the advertisements can be made to Padawan Municipal Council under the Advertisement Licence (By-Law 5),” he disclosed.
