KUCHING: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak will still continue, said Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Chong Chieng Jen. Chong, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) state chairman said this during a press conference at the Media Centre of Kuching International Airport here in an effort to clarify a misunderstanding stated in a local Chinese daily news report.

“On September 4, 2018, the local daily reported that the highway project has been cancelled. “Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad had said that due to the country’s financial situation, the project has been postponed during a press conference on his last visit to Brunei.

“I checked with the Prime Minister’s Department as well as the contractors involved, the statement was referring to Sabah,” he explained adding that the project in Sabah was under suspicion of disbursement of fund and investigation has started. He also said that the funds for unnecessary matters will be used for other development projects in Sarawak.
