SRI AMAN: Several areas in the town centre here were flooded between one and two feet deep late Monday afternoon. Among the af fected areas were the CIMB Building, Everise Supermarket, Pasar Tamu, Sri Aman Open Market and Sri Aman Waterfront Garden.

The flood in the town centre was due to heavy rainstorm from 5pm, followed by the high tide phenomenon. The combination of these two factors caused water to rise in all the affected areas starting from 6.30pm.

“Such flood is quite common in town, especially if it rains heavily and the tide from the Batang Lupar is coming in simultaneously,” said a resident. Traffic in the affected areas returned to normal after the flood began to recede around 9pm. Some personnel from the Civil Defence Corps were seen monitoring the situation in the affected areas.

“The authorities should take immediate action to upgrade the drainage system in this town so that the problem of flood can be minimised,” said another resident.
