MIRI: An ambulance carrying a patient was involved in a road accident at Telang Usan roundabout here, last Sunday night.

It was understood that the ambulance was carrying the patient, in his 30s, to Miri Hospital to undergo a surgery on his neck from Bintulu Hospital when the accident occurred at around 9.00pm.

The accident was believed to have occurred when a lorry suddenly entered the lane the ambulance was travelling in to avoid a collision with a motorcycle that was heading to the city centre from Morsjaya.

The ambulance driver who failed to stop the vehicle in time hit the left side of the lorry. The patient, the driver, several paramedics and his mother were not injured in the incident.

Following the accident, another ambulance was called to the scene to take the patient and his mother to the hospital.

Traffic police personnel were at the scene to investigate the cause of the accident.
