Peace and harmony never neglected: TYT

ARIKEI: The state government has never neglected the most important aspects which are peace and harmony in its effort to develop Sarawak further. Speaking at the state-level Prophet Muhammad’s birthday celebration the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said the diversity of religion, ethnicity and culture would continue to be a platform to become Sarawak’s strength as a developed state.

“The unity of our multi-racial society is an essential foundation that guarantees continuous development and wellbeing. “There is no racial or religious discrimination but Islam is deeply concerned with unity, so the government always ensures that the people receive fair and equal treatment.

“The diversity of religions, cultures and customs of the people in the state must be preserved,” he said, adding that every individual has the right to practise his or her own religion or customs. He also added that mutual respect and understanding of culture should also be maintained.

“Such respect will not only reflect the understanding but would also create a more harmonious atmosphere among our multi-racial society,” he said. Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar and State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani were among those present.
