Perry Ellis is doubling down on the 1990s trend with the second drop of its ‘Perry Ellis America’ capsule collection.

The sports-oriented menswear brand first unveiled the limited-edition, unisex line — which pays homage to the sub-label of the same name that the brand first launched in 1984 with Levi’s — back in October with 12 pieces from its archives. Now it has released ‘Capsule II’, a five-piece sequel that sees original pieces updated and reimagined with a vibrant red, black, white and grey colour palette and classic logos.

The new collection spans nylon tracksuits, washed denim, a rugby polo, a puffer jacket and a basketball sneaker — all featuring logos that have been mashed up and revamped. An eagle motif references the brand’s relationship with the denim giant Levi’s.

“With Capsule II, we maintained the DNA of the original pieces and took it up a notch with updates that reinforce the rich history of heritage applications and branding,” said Perry Ellis Creative Director, Michael Maccari.

The brand isn’t the only fashion label to go digging through the archives lately — in November, Marc Jacobs announced the launch of the ‘Redux Grunge Collection 1993/2018’. Ironically, the capsule fashion series marked the 25th anniversary of his iconic but controversial Spring 1993 ‘Grunge’ collection for Perry Ellis, which actually saw him fired from the company after it was widely derided by fashion critics. – Relaxnews
