KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud received a courtesy call from a delegation from the Pesta Benak Sri Aman 2018 Main Organisng Commitee led by Assistant Minister of Community Well-being, Datuk Francis Harden Hollis who is also Simanggang Assemblyman at Astana Negeri here yesterday.
The courtesy call was meant to invite Tun Taib to officially declare open the Pesta Benak Sri Aman 2018 to be held from 10 to 12 August. Themed ‘Sri Aman Mansang Maju’ it is hoped that the festival can contribute to the local tourism industry by promoting Batang Lupar tidal bore as a tourism product unique to the state and the country.
The festival is also meant to popularise Sri Aman town as a ‘Bandar Benak Malaysia’ (Malaysia Tidal bore Town) and as the same time to promote unique local food, culture, arts and heritage as travel packages. Also present were Resident of Sri Aman Division, Indit Bangai who is also Chairman of the Main Organisng Committee, Treasurer Evangelyn Teddy, Secretary Crispin Francis and Assistant Secretary Rita Ros.
