KUCHING: PETRONAS and Sarawak engineering firm, Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation yesterday signed two contracts worth about RM480 million for work on Bokor Phase 3 Re-development and Anjung Gas Development projects off the shore of Sarawak.
The first contract worth approximately RM290 million, awarded on April 12, 2017, was for the provision of Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) of three wellhead platforms for the Bokor Phase 3 Re-development Project.
The wellhead platforms will be installed in Q1, 2019 at the Bokor field, about 45 kms northwest of Lutong, Miri.
The project is under Baram Delta EOR Production Sharing Contract (PSC), which is operated by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) in partnership with Sarawak Shell Bhd.
The second contract, estimated at RM189 million and awarded on April 25, 2017, was for the provision of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) of one wellhead platform and jacket for Anjung Gas Development Project, 200 kms off the shore Bintulu.
The wellhead platform will also be installed in Q1, 2019 and first gas is expected in December, 2019.
Signing on behalf of PETRONAS was its Vice President of Malaysia Assets, Development & Production, Mohd Jukris Wabah; the ceremony was witnessed by Head of Procurement, Group Procurement, Noor Mohamad Taj Mohammad.
Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation was represented by its General Manager, Hajah Norhizan Sazali and witnessed by its Procurement Manager, Lubau Genam.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and PETRONAS President and Group CEO, Datuk Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin.
Johari, in his speech, said: “The signing ceremony reflects how close we are when we work together with our national oil company and also the confidence of the PSC contractor.
“With that sort of collaboration, we will be able to chart our future and I can assure you that in the next three to five years, there will be a lot activities here in Sarawak in the oil and gas industry. That I can tell you but the details I will let you know later as it is not an easy game to play,” he said.
“But definitely, I can say that with new technology to explore what is under Sarawak’s waters and also on land,” he said.
Johari said Sarawak was blessed with abundant energy including the Bakun hydro dam which was now 100% Sarawak-owned.
Wan Zulkiflee said as the custodian of the nation’s oil and gas resources, PETRONAS was committed to working together with the state government to support its growth aspirations. Part of this commitment includedcontributing to the state‘s socio-economic development as a long-term value driver.
PETRONAS, he disclosed, had, so far, invested RN140 billion in the development of Sarawak’s oil and gas sector.
He said to date, 420 Sarawak companies had registered as PETRONAS vendors and nearly 5,000 Sarawakians were working for PETRONAS in Sarawak as well as in its global operations.
Since 2010, he said, nearly RM400 million had been spent on education and human capital development, and PETRONAS education development programme had benefited more than 5,000 Sarawak students and 15 education institutions.
Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Bin Tun Abang Haji Openg, Chairman of Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation, said the project duration was 33 months for Anjung WHP and 43 months for Bokor WHPs.
Also present were members of the State Cabinet, senior state government officials as well as senior officials of PETRONAS and Brooke Dockyard and Engineering Works Corporation.
