KUCHING: Petronas must apply licence from the Sarawak government in order to operate their oil and gas operation in the State.

According to the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg, Petronas must comply with the written law and it is there.

“They can mine in other states, but if they want to mine in Sarawak, they have to ask, to comply with our state laws.

“They also must consult and comply with the state laws which are still there,” said Johari during a press conference held after the closing ceremony of the 14th Parti Pesaka Bumiputera (PBB) convention held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), yesterday.

Johari also noted that he had granted the Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) a mining licence under the Oil Mining Ordinance 1958 of Sarawak

Meanwhile, Johari also said that Petros chief executive officer post will be helmed by a Bidayuh with a vast experience in the oil and gas field and refused to mention any name regarding the position.

He said they will develop the connectivity in terms of cyber connectivity and also bridge.

“This will provide the rural community the opportunity to develop themselves and apart from that, the party members also support our efforts to develop the state water grid.

“These three matters are important for us to transform the rural areas, apart from the training to the youth and those who are involved in the economic development that we are implementing,” said Johari.
