MIRI: The Facebook posting that purportedly claimed Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng will make a proposal to move a motion to change the status of religion on the Mykad at the Parliamentary sitting was untrue.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) National Women chief for Sarawak Affairs and political secretary to Dr Teo, Voon Shiak Ni clarified that the coalition has no intention to do such a thing and considered the Facebook posting as fake news.

“We do not have any intention to change the religion status on our Mykad and legal documentation, this is a multi racial, multi religious country and we promote the highest order of mutual respect for religious practices among all Malaysians as enshrined in the Federal Constitution,” she said in a press conference here yesterday.

She appealed to netizens on the Facebook not to viral the posting anymore as it was baseless and not from Dr Teo’s official Facebook.

Voon said the public could get relevant information from Dr Teo’s official Facebook at PKR Parlimen Miri P.219  to get the latest update on his political activities.

Meanwhile Dr Teo, who was also present, said improving the health services and infrastructure in Miri would be his immediate task after he visited the Miri Polyclinic yesterday morning.

He said the three urgent issues that needed to be resolved at the Miri Polyclinic were

sufficient car parks, medical supply distribution and medical facilities.

“I will put forth the request to the Health Minister for funding,” he said adding that he has requested the management of Miri Polyclinic to submit a report so that additional funding could be requested from the federal government.

“The current car parks for Miri Polyclinic was insufficient for the past 20 years, the PH federal government will work with either the state government or private land owners to convert the land into car parks befitting the largest outpatient polyclinic in Miri,” he said.

In addition, he said, the medical supply distribution to patients was cut from three months to one month by the previous government and this method had worsened the congestion at the Miri Polyclinic because patients needed to come back every month to get their supply of medicine.-Bernama
