KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central Publicity Secretary Milton Foo (pic) said due to the weak currency and foreign exchange loss, the cost of sugar has increased, so has the cost of imported rice.

He said the government at this particular period should care more and understand the hardship of the people by ensuring that the price of these daily necessity items do not increase and to provide subsidies or even incentives (such as tax deduction for example) to the manufacturers and importers in order to reduce their costs, rather than putting the burden on the people.

“ The currency of Malaysian Ringgit is so weak and the government needs to take drastic steps and comprehensive measures to revitalise the economy of our country. People’s life is hard and they are living in pain. As a responsible and caring government, it has a duty to ensure that the prices of sugar and white rice remain unchanged, as the increase in price may also cause the price hike to other items rendering high inflation where people will suffer at the end of the day,” he added.

He hoped that a solution will be seen in the near future to stop the people from suffering.
