MARUDI: The local police are looking for a man over a Facebook posting showing the aerial view of Marudi town which the police suspected was taken using a drone without obtaining permission from the authority concerned.

In a press statement yesterday via WhatApps to the New Sarawak Tribune, Marudi police chief, DSP Gabriel Risut said he has instructed his men to locate the man known as ‘Hasri Hamid’ after he (Hasri) posted the aerial view of Marudi town in his Facebook account.

“We are in the process of locating Hasri Hamid,” DSP Gabriel said, adding that the use of drones without referring to the authority concerned (Civil Aviation Department of Malaysia) is an offence as it can cause accidents in the air.

“Hence, it is advisable for any individual who wishes to fly drone to refer to the authority concerned because it may pose a risk to plane passengers in flights to Marudi,” Gabriel said.

The photo was posted by Hasri in the Marudi Community page.

“Hasri might think that his action may be an entertainment for him but it is risky for Marudi plane passengers.

“Thus, any individual who wants to fly drone should seek advice from the civil aviation authority in Marudi first. Do not take things for granted,” Gabriel pointed out.
