Popular cat statue all dressed up for Firefighters’ Day

KUCHING: The famous cat statue and icon of Kuching at Jalan Padungan here is wearing the Fire and Rescue (Bomba) Department uniform to mark the 2018 World Firefighters’ Day celebration until tomorrow.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department Director, Nor Hisham Mohammad, the white cat is wearing the number four Bomba uniform out of the eight uniforms available, namely, the camouflage uniform.

“This is the first time we are putting the uniform on the cat. We used about 10 metres of fabrics and the uniform was sewn by our own officers.

“By putting the uniform on the cat, we hope to inform the public about the World Firefighters‘ Day,” he told a press conference after launching the celebration at the Padungan Fire Department Station here yesterday.

Nor Hisham added that the tradition of putting the uniform on the famous cat statue would be continued in future.

He disclosed that 967 officers statewide were registered postal voters.

“We encourage all officers, who have registered to vote, to perform their duty as voters in a democratic country.

“We are one of the nine new agencies that are allowed to go for postal voting and we have received the voting papers since Wednesday,” he said.
