KUCHING: Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) is reviving the President’s Cup after a lapse of almost four years.
According to SRU President Richard Song Swee Jin, the coveted championship will be held at Sacred Heart School’s rugby field in Sibu on 15th and 16th July this year.
The 15-aside tournament, to be organised by Sibu Division Rugby Union (SDRU), will select rugby players to represent Sarawak in the forthcoming Agong’s Cup which has been scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 21st August onwards.
The President’s Cup, last held in Sarawak in 2013, will see four teams from Sibu, Kuching, Miri and either Bintulu or Mukah, depending on the outcome of their play-off just prior to 15th July.
During Malaysia Rugby (MR) Council Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur on last 17 June Song was appointed as Council Member of Malaysia Rugby.
He was accompanied by SRU Honorary Secretary Abdul Ghafar Arshad during that meeting, which was chaired by MRU President Dato’ Shahrol Zaman Datuk Yahya, who welcomed SRU into MR’s fold after having been absent since 2012.
MR hosted the breaking of fast after the meeting.
