Prevention is State MACC’s 2018 focus

KUCHING: The new director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak office, Razim Mohd Noor revealed that the state commission would be focusing on prevention this year.

He revealed that MACC has made 2018 as the year of Prevention.

“So, we will intensify our efforts in preventing corruption in society and getting the people together to support MACC in corruption prevention effort,” he said.

He disclosed this when met by the media after the launch of ‘Maskot & Sahabat Cilik SPRM’ at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Green Road here yesterday.

Razim added that he would also focus on human capital capacity building among the officers of MACC Sarawak.

“We will focus on capacity building so that they can move together with their colleagues in Peninsula Malaysia and keeping them abreast of current development. We do not want our officers to be left behind in the aspects of knowledge and human capital,”  he explained.

When asked if a taskforce would be set up to ensure that there was no leakage or corruption in the state’s timber industry, Razim disclosed that the taskforce would be set up should there be any information of leakages.

“This matter is being monitored because leakage from our natural resources is a public matter,” he added.

Earlier on, Razim revealed that MACC had launched the ‘Gerakan Revolusi Anti Rasuah’ or ‘GERAH’ on 8 May 2017 with the aim to unite the people in rejecting corruption and despising the corrupters.

Following that on 1 August 2017, Sahabat GERAH SPRM was launched.

He added that the membership of Sahabat GERAH SPRM is open to Malaysians aged 18 and above and to date, has more than 150,000 members.

Razim disclosed that Sahabat Cilik SPRM is targeting primary school children and the launching was held simultaneously nationwide with SK Hashim Awang in Kepala Batas, Penang as the location for the launching at the national-level.

He explained that the objective of Sahabat Cilik SPRM was to build the relation between SPRM and the community especially primary school children.

Also present at the launching were the Head of School Management Sector in the State Education Department, Omar Mahli, Kuching District Deputy Education Officer, Chen Fei Ming, MACC senior officers and Headmaster of SK Green Road, Abang Sapali Abang Sepawi.
