KUCHING: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) reminded stern action will be taken against business operators that are selling control item exceeding the price set by the government during festive season.
According to its Deputy Minister, Datuk Henry Sum Agong, KPDNKK officers will be in every location especially supermarkets, farmer’s markets and also public market to ensure an effective enforcement during festive season.
“This is a continuous effort to protect the consumers from those unethical business operators who take advantage of the festive seasons.
“Business operators must comply with the instruction imposed and also must practise an ethical way in managing the business, and consumers too must be aware of their responsibilities and exercise their rights,” said Henry at a press conference after launching the Price Controlled Items campaign in conjunction with Chinese New Year at Giant Tabuan Jaya Mall here yesterday.
Henry also said that the visit was to inform the public on the government’s effort to reduce their burden especially during festive seasons.
He said this scheme is implemented during every main festive season in the country.
“What is important is that all the parties, consumer and business operators are working together with us to ensure that this scheme would benefit everyone,” he said, adding that there was no overpriced item found during the visit.
The 13 items that is listed in the Price Controlled Items in conjunction with Chinese New Year are live chicken, poultry chicken (standard and super), gred A, B, and C chicken egg, garlic, pomfrit (China), prawn, live pig, pig stomach, fat and meat.
