Probe into Puchong drowning incident 75 pct completed

MIRI: The Fire and Rescue Department’s internal investigation into the exact cause of drowning, involving six firemen during a rescue mission for a teen who drowned after fallng into a mining pond in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong, is 75 per cent completed.

This was revealed by the department’s Director-General Mohammad Hamdan Wahid on Thursday.
Speaking to a group of local media in Miri after closing the Intellectual Integrity Enhancement Borneo Zone 2018 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, he pointed out that they were expecting it to be fully completed some time this month.

“Meanwhile, for independent investigation body, their probe on the incident is expected to be completed before the end of this year,” he said.

Mohammad Hamdan also disclosed that the victims’ next-of-kins have also received compensations from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).

“We have handed over compensations to their next-of-kins on October 24, and more will be given to them,” he said. He was also asked on his Budget 2019 expectations.

“I hope the Budget 2019 would bring good to various government agencies,” he said, without commenting much on the most anticipated budget.

Also present during the forum on Thursday were Bomba Sarawak Director Khirudin Drahman and Miri Bomba Chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong.

320 participants from 55 various government enforcement agencies from Labuan, Sabah and Sarawak attended the Intellectual Integrity Enhancement Borneo Zone 2018.

Earlier, in his opening speech at the forum which was held for the second time this year, Mohammad Hamdan stressed on the important of applying integrity in their working process in order to avoid any misconduct or corruption amongst government servants.

“Such forum helps us in improving integrity and raising the standards for government servants,” he said.
The first forum was held in Labuan in March this year.

Next location for the forum would be Perlis. The forum was organised by Bomba Malaysia in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Institute of Integrity.
