KUCHING: The Local Architects’ Institute has decided to hold the third installation of the PAMSC – NIPPON Paint Public Design Lectures in Sibu. The event will take place this Friday, the 13th of October 2017 at the Main Lecture Hall of University College of Technology, Sibu. (UCTS).

‘We wanted to broaden the coverage of these free design lectures, to the other towns in Sarawak, instead of just having them in Kuching. There are two architecture schools in Sibu, and the students would benefit greatly from this exposure’ said Ar.

Wee Hii Min, the PAMSC Organising Chairman for the Lecture Series. He added that this is not aimed only at students but to all members of the public, as we would all learn about the importance of design in our lives. The lectures are free of charge because of generous sponsorship from Nippon Paint and support from UCTS.

The lecture typically comprises 3 speakers – a former winner of Nippon Paint’s Asia Young Designer Award, a local designer and an invited keynote. But in Sibu, there will be ‘bonus’ speakers – fresh from the success of their Cardboard City Challenge during World Architecture Day last week, TayTze Yong and Lam Choi Suan from IntoDesign Lab will talk about their design commitment towards childrens’ education.

Third speaker is local talent is Ms. Wong Lin Sze who trained at USM and now teaches at UCTS, she will some of her community art projects carried out with her students. And our keynote speakers are two brothers, Chia Shi Chee and Chia Shi Chen.

Together, they run the BASIC DESIGN WORKSHOP from Batu Pahat, Johor. Their disparate architectural training (Chee is from University of Melbourne, Chen from Tsinghua University, Beijing) gives rise to a diverse selection of thoughtfully crafted buildings, from private houses to school buildings. They are the next generation of emergent architects in Malaysia. For more information and registration, please visit info@pamsc. org.my.
