KUCHING: The State Level Public Service Innovation Week will take place between 15 and 20 October similtaneously in Kuching, Kota Samarahan, Sarikei and Miri. Var ious programmes were drafted by co-organisers namely the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) and the State Service Modernisation Unit of the Chief Minister’s Department throughout Innovation Week, highlighting the close collaboration between the federal and state governments.

According to MAMPU’s Director, Dr. Dusit Jaul, this year’s programmes are similar to previous years where various activities and programmes are open to civil servants, private sector workers, entrepreneurs and members of the public. Public Service Innovation Week has five major areas of interest with programmes organised by federal and state government departments as well as statutory bodies and non-governmental organisations.

The five areas are health, economic, environmental, social and Innovative Conventions and State Level Public Service Innovation Week Closing Ceremony. Sarawak Inno Run / Ride & Hari Sukan Negara (HSN) Ride programme opens the Innovation Week on 15 October at the Sultan Iskandar Building, Simpang Tiga, Kuching.

Running and biking events are divided into two categories; the 5km InnoRun / Walk event and 30km HSN Fun Ride. This event has been made to coincide with this year’s National Sports Day calendar. The objective of the event is to promote the State Public Service Innovation Week Celebration 2017 while also promoting a healthy lifestyle and inculcating unity amongst the local community. The event will be officiated by Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan. Also in attendance will be State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Sarawak Federal Secretary Dato’ Mansor Man.

The programme continues with the Innovation Forum which will be taking place on 16 October at the State Legislative Assembly, Petra Jaya, Kuching. A total of 300 participants comprising entrepreneurs, public and private sectors are expected to be involved in a half-day programme. The forum is organised by Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC).

Moderated by Rector of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak, Professor Dato Dr. Jamil Hamali, the panel comprises of the Managing Director of Benithem Sdn Bhd, Teo Beng Huat, DT Leadership Sdn Bhd’s Director and Executive Director, Khairul Anwar Kamarudin and Chief Information Officer of Sarawak Information System Sdn Bhd (SAINS) Dr. Anderson Tiong Ing Heng. The Forum with the theme Innovation In Digital Economy will be officiated by State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani.

The Environmental slot will take place at Sarikei on 16th and 17th October. The Inno Waste programme managed by the Local Government and Housing Ministry will see the participation of local government councils throughout the state. The objective of the programme is to raise awareness of the importance of safeguarding the environment, cultivating the love of the environment, creating a sense of understanding between the public, private and local communities, enhancing interaction among the community through social and recreational activities and promoting the interest of the community in producing innovative products through recycling program of used materials.

The programme will be held at the Dewan Suarah between 2 and 5 pm on 16 October as well as between 8am and 1pm on 17 October. A contest on the best exhibits by participants will also be held and will be officiated by the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Datu Dr. Penguang Manggil.

Meanwhile, the Inno Youth Adventure Programme will see the involvement of state and federal civil servants including students from local universities. The objective of the programme is to promote creativity and innovation among participants based on limited material resources within the stipulated time. In addition, the programme will also serve as a platform for sharing ideas of creativity and innovation between civil servants and the state.

There are four concepts of competition namely Inno Creative; creativity and group engagement activities in the challenge of creative solutions, Treasure Hunt ; activities combining “cryptic” and photo-based solutions, Amazing Race; television reality shows where teams race in competition with other teams, Innovation Questions; including innovation questions and innovation challenges and Inno- CSR; part of the group assignment form for CSR activities. A total of 180 participants from 45 teams will be participating and the opening ceremony will be officiated by Federal State Secretary, Dato’ Mansor Man at INTAN Kota Samarahan.
