Pusa fire leaves 11 homeless

KUCHING: Eleven people were made homeless when two houses at Kampung Semarang, Pusa near Betong were reduced to ashes early yesterday morning.

The houses comprising a double-storey and a single storey were completely destroyed.

No casualty was reported and losses in terms of damage to properties are yet to be ascertained.

Operations room personnel of the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) here said they received a distress call about the fire at 12.18am yesterday.

Seventeen firefighters in two fire engines from Betong and Saratok fire stations were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival they were forced to use water from a pond to help douse the raging inferno but to no avail as the fire was already at its height.

The rescue operation was headed by Vincent Baling Yabi and it ended at about 3.00am.
