KUCHING: Rainbow cheese toast is now the latest craze in town and is now selling at the Kuching Food Festival at MBKS here. Chong Pei Ling and her husband Tan MiangChoon are the first to bring this colourful bright rainbow cheese toast to Kuching, and there is no need to travel to Thailand to have a bite. It is known that Happy Cheese Toast in Thailand introduced the idea in 2017.

Chong said she loves the rainbow colour and got crazy over the idea by Thailand, and that had inspired her to make her own version here.

“Everybody loves to see a rainbow, it makes you happy and feel joyful after looking at one, and the feeling is the same of having these rainbow-coloured cheese toast,” she said when speaking to New Sarawak Tribune. She said people would get excited when they stretch the toast, and a long rainbow colour can be seen from the coloured cheese.

“The best and fun part of the toast is that it can be stretched up to 100cm,” she said. It took Chong about a year to master the skill of making the toast, and she also travelled to Thailand just to see how it was prepared. “The toast is quite easy to make but it also takes skills to prepare it. The mozzarella cheese must be perfectly melted so that it can be stretched nicely once it is pulled,” she explained.

She said first the mozzarella cheese would be mixed with natural food colouring; it is then placed on the toast in rainbow order colour.

After that it is put in the oven for 10 minutes, and grilled for additional five minutes. “We are glad to see that the people are enjoying it,” she said adding that she could sell up to 100 to 200 pieces per day during the food fair.
