‘Ramadan bazaar’ essential item during fasting month

KUCHING: As the fasting month of Ramadan begins, a ‘must-not-miss’ is the Ramadan Bazaar with its numerous stalls, offering a variety of food items and drinks. It is the time whereby Muslims as well as non Muslims to visit and patronise the stalls, seeing people from all walks of life to get their favourite food and drinks.

At one of the bazaars in Kuching, namely Satok Ramadan Bazaar, there are plenty of beverages to quench your thirst, not to mention a big number of mouthwatering food items with all kinds of flavours, be they sweet, sour, and spicy to try out.

On top of that, the traditional Malay ‘kuih-muih’ and food including the grilled, fried and crispy food and spicy porridges which are not to be missed. Refreshing cold beverages such as mixed syrup drinks and fresh juices are priced between RM2 and RM6.

Cheap fried food such as fried noodles, fried Kueh Tiaw, and Fried Kueh also known as ‘Cha Kueh’, are also on offer, priced at only RM3 per packet. At the bazaar, grilled items such as squid, and all kinds of fish namely Stingray, Pomfret, and Sardines are also available with prices ranging from RM17 to RM20. Moreover, there are barbequed chicken wings, skewered and grilled meat called ‘Satay’ categorised as chicken, mutton, and beef satay. Vendors usually start preparing and selling food and drinks from 12 noon till 6pm.
