MIRI: Police here arrested a man believed to be a suspect of a rape case involving a 13-year-old female student in a hotel here last week.

The 36-year-old suspect was detained at a house in Sungai Dalam by a team of Miri Central Police Station ‘Ronda Cegah Jenayah’ (RCJ) at about 9.30pm.

The arrest was made following a police report lodged by the 55-year-old father of the victim after suspecting that his daughter was being raped by  unidentified men.

It is learned that the victim returned home on the evening of 20 September after missing for several days.

On the same day, her father took the victim to Miri Hospital after suspecting his daughter had sex with an unknown man during her disappearance before making a police report.

Deputy local police chief, Supt. Stanley Jonathan Ringgit when contacted confirmed the arrest of a suspect.

According to him, based on preliminary investigations, the victim was raped by three men including an elderly man in two separate locations.

“The victim was believed forced to have sex with the elderly man at a homestay here with a payment of RM700.

“She is also believed to have been raped in turns by two men including the suspect that was arrested in a hotel,” he said.

Stanley said the victim was forced to have sex after being threatened by another woman and was worried to be beaten by the suspect and others still at large.

It is learned that the elderly man was the same suspect who was arrested by police on September 19.

The 82-year-old man was arrested after being suspected of raping another 13-year-old female student.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for raping.
