KUCHING: An old man suspected to have raped an 11-year-old girl was arrested in a house in Matang at 11 am yesterday morning.
Sarawak Head CID, SAC Dennis Leong said the victim was sleeping in her room at about 2.30 am on Thursday when the suspect, aged 70 years old, slipped in and forced himself on her.
The suspect, according to a friend of the family, was believed to be the girl’s grandfather who would come regularly to stay with the family for a few days.
Later on the same day, Leong said the parents came to know of the incident and they brought the young victim to Kota Samarahan Police Station and she
filed a report and was sent to Sarawak General Hospital for examination.
The man is detained and will be investigated for an offence under section 376 of the Penal Code.
