LAWAS: An electrical wireman is being remanded for seven days starting yesterday for allegedly raping an underage girl in a hotel here.

Lawas District Police chief, DSP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect, a 23- year-old man from Kampung Long Tengoa here was arrested at 9.30pm on Monday following a report lodged by the girl on Sunday.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had brought the girl to a hotel on her own free will last April. The suspect also said that there was no payment made to the victim’s mother who is also an owner of an entertainment club who is accused of trying to prostitute her underage daughter.

The suspect also said he did not rape the victim because while they were in a room of the hotel, he learned that the girl was his niece. The police have been conducting further investigations since Tuesday in the room of the hotel where the alleged rape took place.
