RELA course attracts 92 participants

BELAGA: A total of 92 new RELA members comprising 75 men and 17 women from four longhouses here namely Uma Kejaman Neh, Uma Lahanan, Uma Kejaman Lasah and Uma Nyaving Long Menjawah attended a RELA introductory course at Uma Jejaman Neh, Long Liten here, recently.

In his speech at the closing ceremony of the course, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Michael Munjah Lihan said the roles and responsibilities of RELA members nowadays are more challenging.

Hence, the members must equip themselves with knowledge and skills to enable them to give the best services to the community.

He hoped that the course participants would utilise what they have learnt during the course and to uphold the good image of RELA by being discipline while on duty and always dressed smartly in their uniforms. Munjah also disclosed that the RELA introductory course is being held throughout the state and has its own key performance index (KPI) that is to hold six courses with 100 partcipants for each course this year.

Mujah who is also chairman of PBB Murum Branch said that the government is always ready to help RELA. “For instance, the government has allocated 40 acres in Lundu to build Sarawak RELA Training Centre and Lundu District RELA Brnach offic which was announced by the late chief minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem during the 11th State Election last year,” he said.

During the ceremony, Munjah al so announced a grant of RM15,000 to Belaga District RELA from Ulu Rejang MP, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong. Also present were JASA Officer of Belaga, Huvang Liah, Belaga Disitrct RELA Officer, Devon Marakus and local community leaders.
