Rep announces RM30k grant to Saberkas branches

SARATOK: Kalaka Assemblyman Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz yesterday announced a grant of RM20,000 to Saberkas Kalaka Branch and another RM10,000 to its Krian counterpart.

He made the announcement when speaking to officiate at the ‘Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk SABERKAS BERNAS 2017’ event held at Jamek Mosque Saratok.

In his speech Wahab said the mutual assist or ‘gotong-royong’ activity, especially in the preparation of the of the bubur lambuk porridge during the Ramadan month has certainly enhanced the rapport and strengthened relationships and ties between the kampung folks.

He pointed out this traditional activity is a much-awaited event during the month of Ramadan or the fasting month.

“This traditional culture that we have practised for such a long time should be passed to the young generations so they can inherit and pass it to future generations,” he pointed out.

Abdul Wahab who is the Patron of Saberkas Kalaka Branch also said as a way to alleviate the burden of the unfortunate group, the porridge was handed out for free and hoping at least it would help to add to the joy of Ramadan.

He also hoped some quarters could come forward and help non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in holding community projects in Saratok district.

“At the same time it could help to train our youths, especially Saberkas members, to sharpen their leadership skills and training be it in politics or business,” he said.

Meanwhile the Organising Chairman of the Jerayawara Bubur Lambuk Saberkas BERNAS, Mohamad Razi Sitam said this was the 14th year that Saberkas and Bernas Sarawak collaborated in preparing and distributing the bubur lambuk during Ramadan.

“This year we (Saberkas) hold the ‘jeyawara’ in more than 40 locations statewide and Kalaka Branch is among the branches chosen to hold it.

“Local youths are also involved in this mutual assist ‘gotong-royong’ programme and we hope those from the corporate sector could do the same events as what Saberkas had done,” he said.
