Resident: Many activities lined-up

SIBU: In conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Sibu International BASE Jump 2018 to be held at the Town Square here on 20-23 Sept. During the event the BASE jump participants will be wearing superheroes costumes.

Sibu Division Resident Charles Siaw said thus far, 55 jumpers from many countries including United States of America, Australia and Canada have confirmed their participation.

“Hence, we invite the people of Sibu and Sarawakians as a whole to come together to see the Sibu BASE Jump which will be slightly different this year,” he said at a press conference held in the meeting room of Sibu Division Resident’s Office, 5th Floor, Sarawak Islamic Complex Building here, yesterday.

The extreme sports event is being organised by the Sibu Resident Office in collaboration with the Malaysian BASE Association.

If the event receives good response from BASE jumpers, the crowd will see ‘Superheroes’ such as Superman, Batman, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Wonder Woman and others jumping from Wisma Sanyan, the tallest building in Sarawak. Charles said Sibu International BASE Jump 2018 will also be celebrated with the launching of an exhibition and trade fair at Sibu Town Square Phase II from 12 to 23 September.

“Other activities include ‘Walk-A-Mile’, night cycling by the Swan Cycling Club and traditional games,” he said. Besides, there will also be a kite flying demonstration, skateboard show and competition, strongman competition, colouring contest for all ages and launch of rabies awareness programme.

“Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is expected to launch the Jamboree event on 13 September and to flag-off the BASE jumpers on 20 September,” said Charles.
