KUCHING: Around 367 fishermen from the Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan (PNK) Buntal received allowances from the state Malaysia Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) during the Fishermen Living Allowance Presentation here yesterday.
The allowances were distributed by Demak Laut State Assemblyman, Dr Hazland Hipni at Dewan Masyarakat Kampung Hijrah in Bako.
“We are aware of the challenges faced by fishermen so, we always try to help them by providing various forms of assistance,” he said during the allowance presentation ceremony. Out of the total number of recipients, 316 received RM300 each, 46 received RM200 each, while the remaining five received RM150 each with a collective amount of RM104,750.
In addition, prizes were given to 113 winners of the drawing and colouring contest. A contribution of RM2,000 each was given to five recipients under the Natural Disaster Aid & Fishermen Welfare Scheme.
