SARIKEI: The Marine police detained a lorry and seized 250 pieces of sawn timber at Jalan Kesa Baron last Saturday. Sarawak Marine Police Commander (Region 5) ACP Salehuddin Mat Zaman said a team of marine police officers were patrolling the area at around 10.50am when they spotted a white lorry laden with sawn timber and ordered the driver to stop at the roadside for checking. “During the check, we found 250 pieces of sawn timber of various sizes.

The timbers are believed to be illegally obtained as they did not have any seal from the state Forest Department,” he said, adding that the timber were meant for the local market.

Salehuddin said the lorry driver and his assistant were detained and the case were being investigated under the Sarawak Forest Ordinance, 2015.

“The logs and the lorry were seized and will be handed over to the Forest Department in Sarikei for further action,” he said. He said the total value of the seized items amounted to RM107,500. Salehuddin also called on the other agencies and the public to provide any information regarding such activities to the Marine Police at 082-334111.
