RM130,000 approved to replace two longhouses destroyed by fire

SRI AMAN: The government has approved an allocation of RM130,000 for the construction of two new longhouses to replace the two destroyed by fire at Jungkong Panjai, here  on 23 March.

Deputy of Home Minister, Dato Masir Kujat, when visiting the 25 families of fire victims at the Dewan Kampung Melayu Bakong yesterday said, from the total amount, RM80,000 was allocated to the Rumah Langgau Selumbang  with another RM50,000 was allocated to Rumah Junit Duyu.

“Besides giving personal contribution, I hereby hereby announce the allocation to help them to buy equipment for the reconstruction of the longhouse.

“I hope that both Tuai Rumah are able to hold discussions with their charges in order to determine how best to manage the allocation given,” he said.

Also present were Sri Aman District Officer, Ismawie Salleh, Sri Aman Resident representative, Joseph Liaw, his Senior Secretary Whelton Lumpoi, his Private Secretary Bobby Kinyang, Special Officer of Sri Aman Parliament Edmund Pirang  and Immigration Officer Nelson Naga.

Rumah Langgau Selumbang was totally destroyed by fire that occurred between 2 and 3 am on 23 March and Rumah Junit Duyu also suffered 70 per cent damage in the incident.
