RM16.8M WELFARE AID TO HELP 10,128 (JAN-JUL)

KUCHING:   From January to July this year, the Welfare Department offices in Kuching, Bau and Lundu have channeled a total sum of RM16.8 million to help 10,128 recipients of  monthly welfare assistance.

The assistance for  the elderly is RM6.1 million, assistance for children is RM2.6 million (Government Top-Up ),  general assistance is RM1.3 million, allowance for disabled workers is RM2.3 million,  Chronic Patients cares  assistance is RM942,000, Unemployed Disabled Person Assistance amounts to RM2.4 million (State Government Top-up), while Children Care Assistance is RM32,000.

This was disclosed by Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk  Hajah  Fatimah  Abdullah during the presentation of goodies and hampers from Kuching Heng Hua Seng Ing Tong, Dynasty Hotel  and Welfare Department Kuching Divisional Office at Kuching Heng Hua Seng Ing Tong here yesterday.

The event was jointly organised by  Kuching Heng Hua Seng  Ing Tong, Welfare Department Kuching Division and Dynasty Hotel  Miri in conjunction with the 55th anniversary celebration of  Kuching Heng  Hua Seng Ing Tong.

Fatimah said as of the June this year, there are still 29 persons in Baram, Miri and other places who are in the e-Kasih list that still do not receive any assistance.

“We are still making efforts to track them and if by August the community leaders that we sought help from don’t know where they are, we will leave those names out from our lists,” she said.

Meanwhile, at the Goodies Give Away event yesterday, the 100 recipients were  from various races.

Tony Pui, the organising chairman, said the First Goodies Giveaway event was organised in conjunction  with the Temple’s 55th anniversary .
