RM2 bln to continue RTP initiative

KUCHING: The government has allocated RM500 million in the Tenth Malaysian Plan (RMK-10) to implement people-centric projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) initiative.

Assistant Minister for Native Land Development, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn revealed that a total of RM2 billion had been approved to continue the initiative in the Mid-Term Review of the 11th Malaysia Plan (RMK-11).

“Various programmes and projects have been implemented to improve the standards of living of the poor and the hardcore poor.

“It covers various forms of assistance in agriculture, fisheries, housing, water supply, electricity supply, skills training, entrepreneurship, career development, medical services and equipment assistance, education and welfare assistance.

“The Government also takes a holistic approach to improve the economic and welfare of the rural population by implementing programmes and projects that includes infrastructure development, human capital and economy such as improving infrastructure facilities, public amenities coverage and social amenities, developing and facilitating NCR land development and capacity building rural communities through various skills programmes,” he added in response to Murum State Assemblyman Chukpai Ugon during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here yesterday.

He also said that the projects implemented by the Sarawak Agriculture Department in Murum include Group Rubber Plantation Project, Pepper Plant Assistance Scheme, Small Plant Palm Oil Scheme and various other Agricultural schemes.

“The amount allocated by the agricultural department for projects and programmes implemented from 2016 to 2018 is RM14,682,966.40 and a total of 735 farmers have benefited from the programmes,” he explained.
