KUCHING: The proposed RM20 million Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Unity Park at Taman Budaya here is scheduled to be completed by 2020, said DBKU mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai after attending DBKU’s monthly assembly at its headquarters here yesterday.

The project will be implemented in three phases. The first phase includes the upgrading works on the lake as well as the redevelopment of Taman Budaya.

“We want joggers or those walking in the park to be able to see the fish in the lake as right now you cannot see anything due to its condition.

“The second phase would include repair work of the infrastructures, such as a restaurant, which we hope to include,” he said, adding that the CCTV will be installed along with improved lighting to ensure the safety of the general public.

He added that the plan has been completed and that they will go through the tendering process.

“We would like to remind those who frequent the park, such as joggers, to look out for their own safety during the ongoing construction work at the park.

“We will do our best to ensure their safety, but they have to be mindful towards themselves and their surroundings as well,” he said.
