SRI AMAN: The government has approved an amount of RM200 million for the purpose of reconstructing Lanang Camp, Sibu to house 10th Battalion of the General Operation Force (GOF).

The reconstruction project for the Lanang Camp is expected to commence this year and will occupy an area of 151 acres, according to the Bukit Aman Director of Internal Security and Public Order Datuk Seri Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

“The approval of this project has been eagerly waited for so long by us in view that the camp is in a dilapidated situation and needs a total reconstruction,” he said.

Sabtu pointed this out when speaking to reporters during a press conference held after officiating at the official opening of C Company Camp of 10 Battalion of GOF (Temudok Camp) in Sri Aman yesterday.

Meanwhile, he also pointed out that security preparations for the July’s SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur have started.

“We stressed on the importance of the safety and security involving the borders. The police and the armed forces have cooperated closely in monitoring and combating cases of smuggling activities at the borders,” he said.

The C Company Camp of the 10 Battalion of GOF in Sri Aman was reconstructed with a cost of RM235 million involving Phase I and Phase II.

The Phase I reconstruction project of the camp commenced in December 2007 and was completed fully in 2010 and later housed the officers and personnel in July the same year.

Various facilities are found in the camp including buildings housing its administration office, officers’ quarters and other personnel, multi-purpose hall, various fields for drill, big open space for shooting practice, a primary school, KEMAS Kindergarten, a mosque and a church.

Also present were Deputy Director of Internal Security and Public Security Dato Abdul Hamid Mohd Ali, Sarawak GOF Brigade Commander Dato Khaw Kok Chin and Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner  Dato Haji Abdul Aziz Yusof.
