SIBU: A total of 24 organisations received Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants from the Minister of International Trade and ECommerce, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The grants total l ing up t o RM375,000 were distributed to associations, non-governmental organisations, and clubs to enable them to carry out their yearly activities.

Speaking at the presentation of the grants, Wong, who is also Bawang Assan State Assemblyman, revealed that he would distribute the funds in phases.

“I will do my best to give more funds to the people this year. I’m not only looking after Sibu, I have to look after Kuching, Miri, Sri Aman, Limbang, Lawas, and so on.

“ Being the state minister, I just cannot take care of Bawang Assan and Sibu but I have to take care of all the other places.

Therefore, sometimes MRP fund is rather limited. “I have to take particular care on the Bumiputera community in my constituency, Bawang Assan but, today they are not here because I give every longhouse grants,” he said. Wong revealed that his constituency comprised 99 longhouses.
