KUCHING: RM4.27 billion has been approved to build bridges and roads in the coastal areas. Assistant Minister of Coastal Road, Datuk Julaihi Narawi stated this in reply to a question posed by Daro State Assemblyman, Safiee Haji Ahmad during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here yesterday.

He said the state government was fully aware of the needs of the people living in the coastal areas including Sematan, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya, Sebuyau, Meludam, Kabong, Bintulu and Miri.

“As such, it is working hard to complete the construction of coastal roads to accelerate socio-economic development in the areas in line with the government’s efforts to make Sarawak an advanced state in the future,” he said.

Julaihi also disclosed that work on the RM520 million Batang Paloh Bridge and the RM660 million Batang Lassa Muara Bridge in the Daro State Constituency was expected to begin in 2019. He added some of the completed bridges along the coastal route included Batang Sadong Bridge and Kuala Tatau Bridge.

“In addition, the government also has a proposal to upgrade the congested road from Tanjung Kidurong to Samalaju to a fourlane road,” he added.
