KUCHING: A clinic will be built in Kampung Bintawa at the cost of RM400,000. “Plans for the clinic have been completed but after the discussions with the Health Department, community leaders and representative there, with the initial RM200,000 budget, we all have agreed that another RM200,000 will be added for the implementation of the clinic,” said Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He revealed this at a press conference held after a briefing session with the State Public Works Department (JKR) and Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) held at the JKR meeting room in Batu Lintang here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Junaidi who is also Santubong Member of Parliament, also discussed that the project for the five mosques in Kampung Salak, Kampung Pulau Salak, Kampung Pakat, Kampung Stoh and Kampung Sembilan Beradik would be up for tender soon.

“All these projects will be tendered out to contractors in March, April and May this year,” he said. The Minister added that the RM40 million road in Kampung Sembilan Beradik under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) had been delayed because the villagers demanded for a change in the route. He said the road would greatly benefit the Iban, Malay and Chinese communities in the area.

“The initial plan was shown to the villagers but they wanted to change it and a discussion was held with the villagers together with JKR and KKLW officers. They came out with the final plans in December last year, which caused the delay.

According to Junaidi, minor projects involved in the provision of basic facilities for the people in Santubong Parliamentary constituency were going well according to plans. He estimated that JKR and DID had spent about RM80 million each to implement various minor projects such as to addressing drainage problems, repairing roads besides building jetties, mosques and other facilities in the constituency from 2016 to 2017.

Junaidi explained that the projects did not take into account major projects such as the construction of the RM120 million Rambungan Bridge as well as other major federal and state government projects. “There are no ‘sick projects’ in my area during those two years and hopefully for 2018, the remaining projects that have not been implemented yet due to the tendering process and technical investigations will be completed,” he said.
