KUCHING: A total of 7,174 land titles would be affected with a refund payment amounting to RM43,447,264 following the reduction in land premium effective from May 6, this year.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the land premium for residential lots of all State government resettlement and kampong extension schemes were charged not more than RM2,500 per lot.
“Any payment made on or before the effective date (May 6) that exceeds RM2,500 will be refunded,” he said during a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building at Petra Jaya here yesterday.
Abang Johari added that the refund was payable only to the lots belonging to original landowner, lots transferred to beneficiaries/holder of Letter of Administration, and lots transferred by way of love and affection among immediate family members.
“The refund of excess land premium shall not apply to lots transferred by sales and purchase.
“For refund, landowners are required to fill and submit their applications to Land and Survey Department not later than 31 October 2019,” he explained.
He said that this was consequent to the announcement made on May 7, 2018 to reduce land premium for all State government resettlement and kampong extension schemes in the State by 50 per cent.
“The State government is committed to ensuring that the reduction is duly implemented for the benefit of low-income groups in Sarawak,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that there were 121 resettlement schemes and 197 kampong extension schemes in the state.
“That makes up a total of 318 schemes as of present excluding new projects.
“The total number of residential lots available are 46,968 lots,” he said.
