RM60,000 allocated for CHMS No. 1 alumni

KUCHING: Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian announced an allocation of RM60,000 for Chung Hua Middle School No.1 alumni during its 60th anniversary dinner held in the school compound here on Saturday night.

RM50,000 was allocated by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg while Sim contributed RM10,000.

In a speech read by Sim, Abang Jo said that the local Chinese community had the late former Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Satem to thank, for recognizing the United Examination Certificate. “The state government will continue with Tok Nan’s (Adenan Satem) legacy in supporting and allocating funds for the local Chinese education in the state,” said the Chief Minister.

During the dinner, Sim urged graduates to actively apply as civil servants and contribute to the development of the state. He also commended the school alumni for organising the historic dinner as it showed the spirit of giving back and being grateful to the teachers and principal for the education they received.

About 2,500 people attended the dinner and various performances such as dancing, multiple drum play, singing and video showcase were also held.

Also present were Bandar Kuching Member of Parliament, Dr Kelvin Yii and other distinguished guests.
