KUCHING: The construction of the new drainage outlet for storm water discharge at Jalan Masjid, Jalan Market and Lebuh Java that cost about RM7 million is expected to complete on January 17, 2019.

This was disclosed by a member of Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Dato Wee Hong Seng during the project briefing at The Waterfront Hotel here yesterday.

The final stage or phase three of the major flood mitigation project implemented by the government was initiated on January 18, 2018.

“The outcome of the completion of this project is the construction of a three-metre wide reinforced concrete trunk drain underneath road surfaces along Jalan Masjid, Lebuh Java and Jalan Market.

“We are confident that this is a step forward in the implementation of a solution to storm water management.

“We hope that it will be able to help relieve the burden of the people with regards to overcoming flash flood during the monsoon season,” said Wee.

He also pointed out that the understanding and cooperation from all the relevant stakeholders was needed to ensure the successful completion of this project.

“This is the purpose of the project briefing and dialogue session so that all stakeholders can participate in the conversation from the same table.

“We hope that none of the voices were left unheard as feedback is important for us to monitor our progress while minimising any unforeseen circumstances.

“At the same time, since the project is focused on project delivery, not all feedback will be incorporated into the project,” he added.
