KUCHING: RM8.6 million was approved by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr)Abang Johari Tun Openg yesterday for an Islamic Garden to be set up at  Darul Hana Mosque  at Petra Jaya in Kuching.

Abang Johari announced this during his walkabout to the site of the Block 1A/2A (Phase 1) of the Darul Hana Development Project in Kuching yesterday.

He said the Islamic Garden at the Darul Hana Mosque is more beautiful than the Islamic Garden at Oman Mosque.

Those who use the Darul Hana Mosque for wedding will also find the Islamic Garden an ideal place for wedding photo taking, the Chief Minister pointed out.

Darul Hana Development Project was approved by the State Government under the Mid-Term Review of the 10th Malaysia Plan for the transformation of the kampung along the stretch of the Sarawak River from Kampung Boyan right up to Kampung Bintawa Hilir to become a modern, orderly and attractive settlement.

This project has an area of 721 acres and it involves resettlement of 12 villages comprising 2,526 units of houses; 4,278 families and involving 16,655 people.

Block 1A/2A (Phase 1) of the project is for settlement of three villages namely  Kampung Pulo, Kampung  Panglima Seman and Kampung Semarang .

The project is a collaboration between PELITA as the implementing agency for the infrastructure and utility components and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as the implementing agency for the houses construction while Daya Builders Sdn Bhd is the main contractor for the housing development projects.

The Chief Minister said Darul Hana Resettlement is a beautiful area and he advised those who are to have houses there not to sell off their units.

He said the value of their assets when they move in will be between RM200,000 to RM300,000 each.

“When you move in here the value of your assets will be at least RM300,000,” he said.

Abang  Johari said the Darul Hana Development Project is for all  the villages along  the Sarawak River and  the  whole development  project will take about 20 years to complete.

He also informed that the premium for housing scheme throughout Sarawak will be cut by  50 per cent or from RM5,000 to RM2,500 for  the whole of Sarawak with effective from yesterday.

Abang Johari hoped the people in the area would give full support to ensure big majority for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jafaar, the Barisan Nasional candidate for Santubong.

Assistant Minister of Rural Development and Pantai Damai Assemblyman Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the people were thankful and supportive of the government for in implementing the huge project.

He said almost 2,600 heads of families  from 11 villages  are given protection.

One of the main issues faced by the people  in ‘seberang  hilir’ is the lack of land for building houses especially with extended families.

Also  participating in the walkabout  programme with the Chief Minister were Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Barisan Nasional candidate for Santubong Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Bin Tuanku Jaafar.
