RM90 mln allocated to solve Sri Aman water woes

SRI AMAN: Water woes such as shortage and no supply at all in Sri Aman area including in Lingga and Pantu will soon be history when efforts are taken to solve the issue by the federal and state governments starting early next year.

The good news is that Sri Aman has been allocated a total of RM90 million for the construction and upgrading of water supply facilities in the area starting next year, said Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis.

“From the amount, RM50 million is the amount approved by the government for upgrading of various water treatment plants in Sri Aman.

“Through the allocation, the capacity of the treatment plant at Bayai will be increased from 33 MLD (Millilitre per Day) to 50.3 MLD, beside uplifting the standard of high level water tanks for the respective aforesaid water treatment plants.

“This allocation will also be used to upgrade the water treatment plants in Lingga and Pantu. All these upgrading projects will start next year and are aimed at solving water woes for local residents here,” he pointed out.

Harden who is also Simanggang State Assemblyman told this to reporters after the end of a dailogue session with Rural Water Supply Department

(JBALB) at the Civic Centre, here yesterday.

Meanwhile, the balance of RM40 million is the fund already approved by the federal government through the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKLW) for the purpose of starting water supply  project in Undop area, Sri Aman.

According to him, the consultant of the Undop water supply project has already been appointed by the federal government for the early tendering process in January next year.

“This project has actually announced in 2016. However, the project launch was postponed but the new goverment has decided to continue with the project here.

“As such I do hope that this project could be carried out smoothly in order to give better benefits to some 1,500 residents from 43 longhouses in Undop area, especially in Batu Lintang, here,” said Harden.

Prior to this, the Dialogue With JBALB was held at the Civic Centre. It was organised by Chinese Community Leaders Association of Sri Aman Division.

It was aimed at explaining on the efforts to solve water woes in the area, involving upgrading projects by the government in Sri Aman area that are to commence next year.
