Roadshow on ‘Implementation of Forests (Trained Workmen) Rules 2015’

KUCHING: Sarawak Timber Association (STA) Training Sdn Bhd (STAT) in collaboration with Sarawak Forestry Corporation Sdn Bhd (SFC) are organising a roadshow on the “Implementation of the Forests (Trained Workmen) Rules, 2015” which will be held as for three days.

It will be held on this coming Wednesday, 26 April at Imperial Hotel, Miri;   on Thursday, 27 April at Promenade Hotel, Bintulu  and on Friday, 28 April at Tanahmas Hotel, Sibu

The Forests (Trained Workmen) Rules, 2015 (“The Rules”) has come into force since 1 July 2015 to regulate compliance with Section 51(1) of The Forest Ordinance, 2015 (Sarawak Cap 71), which requires all forestry companies (as employers) shall hire only properly trained workmen to carry out forestry activities.

Under The Rules, all workmen in the prescribed forestry activities namely; (i) Certificate in Tree Felling, (ii) Certificate in Log Extraction, (iii) Certificate in Log Loading, (iv) Certificate in Clear-fell Site Preparation and (v) Certificate in Mechanical Site Preparation are required to be trained and certified.

The roadshow aims to update the timber industries on the roles and responsibilities of STAT as a Training Provider and SFC as an Agent, as well as to ensure the industry is able to meet the requirements of The Rules.
