Rotary Club to hold Charity Run on 15 April

KUCHING: The Rotar y Club of Kuching Cent ral (Rotar y International District 3310) paid a courtesy call on Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri in her office here, yesterday to officially invite her as the Guest of Honour for the club’s Rotary Charity Run 2018-Gift of Sight which will be flagged off at CityONE Megamall on 15 April at 6.30am.

The delegation was led by President Benjamin Lo. He explained to Nancy that the aim of Rotary Charity Run 2018- Gift of Sight is to raise funds and awareness for the club’s signature project of providing free cataract operations to patients of low income households in rural areas of Sarawak.

The club has been carrying out the project since 2008 and more than 200 cataract patients have received these free operations from Nov 2016 until 2018. Fund-raising chairman, Dato’ Thomas Ngu also informed Nancy that the club is targeting a total of 4,000 participants for the run.

There are three distances for participants to choose from– 2km, 5km, and 10km. There are cash prizes for the Top 30 winners of the 10km male and 10km female categories. All participants will receive a goodie bag and an exclusively designed finisher’s medal. The race shirt comes in red or yellow but is subject to availability of sizes on a first come first served basis.

By popular request, the registration deadline has been extended to 31 March. The latest updates will be posted on the club’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/kuchingcentral).
