Rural-based projects worth RM71.6 million still ongoing

For 2017, the Cabinet Committee of Rural Transformation through its Key Result Areas (KRA) groups has been tasked to implement 151 rural transformation initiative projects with a total allocation of RM71.6 million.

According to Deputy Chief Minister, who is also Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, the implementation of these rural based projects are ongoing and shall serve to improve the quality of life of the rural community.

He noted the projects that have been completed were the Cluster- Clinic System at Klinik Kesihatan Long Lama; mobilisation of 15 Rural Clinic Visiting Doctor to cover 85 nearby clinics with no medical officers; repairing and upgrading of 13 dilapidated rural clinics; completion of Sarawak Rural Electrification Scheme (SARES) projects for 58 villages; completion of flood mitigation projects at 63 flood-prone areas; completion and operationalisation of 87 1BestariNet telecommunication towers; and the completion of survey works on residential lots, agriculture lots and home garden at Metalun Resettlement for those affected by the construction of the Murum Dam.

“For 2018, the committee will continue to implement various rural transformation initiatives under the respective KRAs to ensure delivery of rural basic infrastructure and amenities to the rural areas at the shortest time possible.

“Among them are the repairing and upgrading of 46 rural dilapidated schools, formation of 10 Rural Clinic Visiting Doctor teams to cover 29 health clinics, and SARES projects to connect 54 villages to be completed in the second quarter of 2018,” Masing added.
