SIMUNJAN: Saga Sebuyau 2 team created history at a water sports festival, Simunjan Regatta 2017 held at Batang Sadong River recently. The Bidar boat 30-men rowers won the King of The River title for the season. The team led by team manager, Wan Serbi Tunku Tapa completed the 2 Km race in 8:20 second. Meanwhile, two other teams – Cahaya Puteri Ruai and Putera Dang Sari – were second and third when they finished in 8:29 second and 8:44 second respectively.
With the winning, Saga Sebuyau 2 team took home a cash prize of RM5,000, a challenge trophy and an accompany trophy. “We are very happy with this victory and congratulations to all the athletes who have been able to go all out throughout the competition,” said Wan Serbi.
The prize presentation ceremony was officiated by the Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur and Small, Medium Enterprise (SME) Development who is also Assistant Minister of E-Commerce, Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden Majais who represented Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Also present at the ceremony and giving away the prizes was Simunjan Assemblyman, Awla Dris. The Bidar boat 20-men’s rowers category was won by Cahaya Puteri Ruai, while Saga Sebuyau 4 and Puteri Dang Sari I were second and third place respectively. In the category of Bidar boat 15- men’s rowers, the champions were Saga Sebuyau 6 followed by Putera Dang Sari and Cahaya Puteri Ruai I in second and third places respectively.
For category Bidar boat mixed rowers (male and female), Saga Sebuyau emerged as champions, with Mahkota Dewa Gedong 2 and Mahkota Gedong I respectively second and third. In the Bidar Boat 10-men’s category, Putera Dang Sari were champions while Mahkota Dewa Ibu 2 and Intan Terpilih 2 finished second and third respectively.
The Balok Boat 8 paddlers event was won by Intan Terpilih 7 while second and third places went to the Mahkota Dewa Gedong and Cahaya Arus. Meanwhile, Intan Terpilih 4, Batong Lampong and Intan Terpilih Iwere the first place, second and third places of the Bidar boat 6 rowers category respectively.
